Yoga provides a wonderful way to explore the mind and body connection. Restorative or (Gentle) Yoga allows the body to experience support in postures through the use of blocks, bolsters, blankets and other props to allow the muscles to relax. When the body is able to release tension and stress (with gentle supports) the nervous system is able to relax which can ease anxiety and slow down busy thoughts.
I believe that all beings can learn to have a tranquil mind, relaxed body and open heart. I infuse mindfulness in my work with clients which can be helpful in deepening awareness of thoughts, urges, sensations, and emotions. Mindfulness meditation can especially be helpful for anxious thoughts, worry, and problems with focusing and concentration.
The body’s relaxation response can be achieved through changing the way you breathe. When triggered the body responds in a way that prepares the body for action and protection. Breathing deeply and slowly helps the body and the brain to regain a natural rhythm. For that reason, I teach clients multiple breathing tools to help clients feel more in control of stressful moods.
